Hi, I have asked several times on this list about the performance of the libata sata drivers over the standard ata ones (/dev/hde as opposed to /dev/sda). For my machine, a Gigabyte 8IPE1000Pro2 ich5 865PE m/b setup with a 120GB seagate + 8MB cache my system behaved so much better. Speed was improved and my busy disk does not mean my system grinds to a halt for everything else. Well I compiled kernel 2.6.7-bk12 with the ATA SATA drivers instead of Linux & it (a) booted (b) performs much better. I used the FC2 config by copying the architecture configuraiton file to ".config" and made my kernel with "make oldconfig". For the first time since FC1 and kernel 2.4.24 and above I'm a happy chappy. Marc |
