problems with USB key on 2.6.6-1.435 kernel

I just put Fedora Core 2 on a Dell Precision 350. It was previously
running FC 1, but this was a clean "everything" install, with all
updates installed.

This machine has a USB keyboard with a couple of USB ports in the
keyboard. When booting with the updated kernel (2.6.6-1.435), I got a
message from kudzu and the keyboard (and USB mouse that is plugged
into the keyboard) went dead. I eventually recovered them by
unplugging the keyboard from chassis and reconnecting it. On a
subsequent boot, I managed to do this quickly enough to get kudzu to
tell me that it had detected a Dell keyboard hub, and to configure it
as a US English keyboard.

I have two USB keys, a 128 MB Targus and a 256 MB Sony that's USB
2. With kernel 2.6.6-1.435, but *not* with the original FC 2 kernel
(2.6.5-1.358), I can't get the Sony key to work in a port on the
keyboard (which is the most convenient port to use!). It works fine
if I plug it into other ports directly on the computer. The Targus
key works fine in all the ports.

When I insert the Sony key into the keyboard port, I get the following
in /var/log/messages with the 2.6.6-1.435 kernel

Jun 27 17:32:29 g2 kernel: usb 5-1.2: new full speed USB device using address 10
Jun 27 17:32:29 g2 kernel: usb 5-1.2: can't connect bus-powered hub to this port

When I insert it into a port directly on the computer (one of the two
on the front), I get:

I didn't get the first update kernel (2.6.6-1.427) when I updated this
machine, so I haven't tried with that. I've looked in the mailing
list archives, bugzilla, and google, and didn't see anything that I
could tell was relevant.

I'd welcome any suggestions or explanations.

  George
