Hello Michael
I installed the RPM package from freshrpms.net along
with the following dependencies in that order :
 aalib, faad2, libdvdcss, libdvdread, libfame, libmad,

 lame, lirc, lzo, xvidcore, & mplayer-fonts.
It works well when invoked from the Gnome menu, I mean
the GUI-based one.Try out.
