help: fontsize with xterm and gnome-terminal -fs ##

["javac javac" <javac@xxxxxxxx>]

i tried:   xterm -fs 50 &
but that didn't seem to increase the font size at all..?
do xterm and gnome-terminal use the same/similar switches, also?
