I've seen this problem a dozen times on Solaris and other linux distros.. however, I'm unable to make it work on Fedora (whic his very strange)..

BitchX (And pine, and other applications) get their text garbled under screen with Fedora core 2. I tried the latest source versions of BitchX and screen (as well as the rpm screen that came with fc2).. I tried configurations that are known to work on Redhat 9 without issue.

I even tried copying over the termcap and terminfo directory from a machine that works OK. I tried removing the termcap screen entries and using the ones that come with Screen 4.x, as well as using tic to import their custom ones into /usr/share/terminfo.

I've tried accessing the box from console, xterm, rxvt, securecrt.. with multiple settings for TERM variable (screen, vt100, console, linux, etc).. None of them seem to fix it.

BitchX and pine and everything else works just fine outside of screen. Screen does appear to use terminfo and not termcap.. I've pretty much exhaused my resources..

Has anyone else seen this problem, or does anyone have any suggestions? I will be the first to admit I don't often have to deal with termcap/terminfo (I think its one of those things i'd rather never have to think about.. and just have it work :P).

This is a fresh install of FC2.. nothing special. (All updates applied).

Try "LANG=C;export LANG" before running BitchX. FC2 defaults to UTF language settings and BitchX is designed for the "C" locale. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Senior Systems Engineer rstevens@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - - VitalStream, Inc. http://www.vitalstream.com - - - - Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------
