First, kudzu seems to be unreliable in claiming it will configure an external modem, It doesn;t seem to make much difference since the modem works anyway. To configure it for ppp for example your use system-config-network. The modem can be completely configured with phone number, login name passwd, speed, etc through options in this program. Ultimately the expectation is when you execute ifup ppp0 (or what ever name you give the connection) the dialing will happen and the connection will be made. ifdown ppp0 will disconnect. The parameters you configure will end up in ifcfg-ppp0 and in wvdial.conf. By the way your serial port is /dev/ttyS0. Now to automate this process I would use the applet modem lights on the panel. Configure the colors in modem lights to tell you the status of the connection. One more thing, modem lights has a lock file. Its name should be changed to LCK..ttyS0. You can use the program wvdial to start your connection but that is not as slick. You will also need a /etc/ppp/pap-secrets file probably. Another option if you have KDE installed is to use kppp. Here your don't need to fool with system-config-network. It does everything you need to do, If there are more questions ask! -- ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University One Trinity Place.
