Alexander's post snipped here > Alexander Marc: All emotions aside, this is a good question, and the answer has been posted previously and eloquently on this list. Some key reasons are these: 1. Editing replies to posts saves bandwidth for every member of the list, many of whom pay dearly for their Internet access. 2. Bottom-posting is easier for most readers when the discussion is asynchronous and joined by many others. It's easier because the top-matter provides context for the reader. 3. While top-posting is straightforward for individual daily conversations (as at work), active members of this list maintain anywhere from 20 to 50 conversations at one time over many days. Bottom-posting helps frequent contributors to keep their conversations in order. This helps more people to get more help over time. Net out: When in Rome, do as the Romans. Top-post at work if it's required or it helps your boss. Bottom-post here, since it is seen as more polite; and since no one here is _required_ to answer your posts. Erik
