I downloaded the JRE from <http://www.java.com/> and it nicely created a directory j2re1.4.2_04. now i've downloaded jedit41install.jar from <http://www.sourceforge.net> and can't figure what to do with it.

I'd like to know how to un-jar (the acronym seems similar to tar) foo.jar from the command line, please.

[net Desktop]$ /home/net/Desktop/j2re1.4.2_04/bin/java jedit41install.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jedit41install/jar

thanks,

No need to unpack the file, simply CD to the directory containing the JAR file and enter "java -jar jedit41install.jar" on the command line. This starts the installation dialog.
