Does this solution require rebooting the machine between home and work? If the OP's needs are like mine, I never reboot the laptop. I use suspend-to-RAM and resume when moving between work and home. A solution involving rebooting is less than optimal.
The "netprofile=home" trick in grub.conf is to make the network profile selection both possible and easy at boot-time. However, changing network profiles does not require a reboot at all. No reason it would, really.
From GNOME's main menu, select "System Settings" I believe, then "Network Device Control" or something like that. You'll get a window showing the interfaces on your machine and the current profile; from there you can activate or deactivate any interface according to the current profile's configuration or you can change the profile. Quick and easy. And of course there are also tools to do this in text mode if you don't run X.
