There's a known problem with certain Asus boards, that probably only a BIOS update will fix:

I have the same problem. I am using FC2 on an old AMD-760MP motherboard with a
NVIDIA GeForce 4 card. I have installed linuxant 2.6 kernel with an 8k stack and the
NVIDIA driver. When loading the driver it prints the message:

Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a is unresolved!
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.

Each time I open a graphics application that uses OpenGL the system stops responding.

Any clue?
