Hello List,
Two days ago, there was a thread about whether Fedora is floppy ready. The solutions given though will work, they all require the user to close the using application, explicitly unmount floppy /CD and then insert another . That's quite a bother. Then there appears to be something in Konqueror ( KDE Filemanager ) that keeps reference open to Floppies / CDs even after the window is closed making it imposssible to unmount Floppy / CD . This can be a great source of frustration in Linux.
I would suggest the said user to have a try at using autofs as the auto mount/unmount tool for removable media. He just have to follow step-by-step the page at http://freespace.sf.net/guidod/howto/autofs.html.
And one more step to avoid KDE error messages : Remove autorun file from ~/.kde/Autostart/Autorun or rename to something like autorun.desktop~.That's it.Now you can access Floppies and CDs just as in Windows. But before taking out,one should move up the directory structure not to be accessing them ( especially for Floppy )
