I asked this question a little while back, and there seems to be some problems compiling with gcj 3.4 (oprofile, I believe). It seems as though it might end up as a Fedora Extra at some point. There is a separate mailing list that has some other comments in it (very low traffic, though) here: http://sources.redhat.com/ml/eclipse/ > A compiled version would perform better than the Java. I must admit, I went through quite a bit of effort to get eclipse-2.1.1-4 compiled with the ssa branch of gcc 3.5 (and eclipse-2.1.0-22 before that), and in the end, I didn't really notice much of a speed increase. It booted a bit quicker, but that's about all. Cheers, Scott
