Thanks to all for the help! Renamed .local & .conf as suggested 99.9% successful I think I know whats causing the 'menu spewing' its, custom links. I think (but I could be wrong) FC 2 is trying to put them were it thinks they're supposed to go but then duplicates entries in different locations just to be sure!
