Thanks for the pointer Jonathan looks like alot of files under .gnome2 use a hard coded path to files.

The problem was with .gnome2/session but it seems to impact other applications like gedit (.gnome2/gedit-medadata.xml) and the pannel

so before the move I am going to change make a script to change all instances of the hard coded location for each user.

Should really be a way for gnome to set a value based on /etc/passwd or whatever at session startup and use that.

Cheers

/home/username must be hard-coded into a configuration file somewhere. You
could try a grep search in the .gnome2 directory.

As a (temporary?) solution, you could create symbolic links pointing from
/home/username to /home2/username

Hi

I am trying to move the location of a number of home directories for
example /home/username to /home2/username

I do this and change the passwd file and i get a severe stall (about
10mins)
after login - "Loading metacity window manager" takes a good few minutes.

If i move things back the way they were it all works fine.

Anyone know what the problem might be?
