I hit a similar problem as have several others on the list.  The problem
is that pcmcia services are started after the network services are
started up.  It would appear that due to his sequence the network card
on the pcmcia bus is not able to be started when the network services
want to start.  

I swapped the order of startup by changing the scripts in the /etc/rc5.d
directory to load pcmcia first then the network services.  This helps,
at least the error you listed is not displayed. 

There is still something wrong with this process, at least on my
laptop.  I still have to pull and reinsert the card for it to be
recognized.  This is true of the DWL-G650 wireless card  as well as the
xircom card I have.  

I have seen enough people reporting this problem to indicate that it is
not something specific to the hardware or load on my machine.
