Winmodem sym link

I downloaded, installed and upgraded Linuxant's modem driver hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt04051300full_k2.6.5-1.358*.rpm on an FC2 install for a Sony PCG-GRZ-610.  Modem 8086:2486 Sub 104d:8142.  The good news is everything works.

In KPPP I left the default device at /dev/modem.  The original install detected the modem as "Generic/Serial" and installed driver "serial_cs".  It also created a sym link from /dev/modem to /dev/cua1.  After install of Linuxant's driver the old driver still shows in the GUI hardware scan.  If I change the default device in KPPP to /dev/ttySHSF0 the modem cannot be opened.  The sym link works fine. However, every time the machine is rebooted the symlink from /dev/modem to /dev/ttySHSF0 defaults to the original value of /dev/cua1 and the link to ttySHSF0 has to be created again.

Questions:
    1.  Why does the sym link revert every time the machine is booted and is there a solution?

    2.  Why does hardware scan still show the original driver installed?

    3.  Why can't the modem be opened using /dev/ttySHSF0 as the default device in KPPP?

Thanks in advance,
B.J. Mcclure
