It seems that 2.6.5 has a bug.. the person in the thread was having a
similar problem.

Yep, sorry, I replied to your message before I figured out it could be a kernel bug in 2.6.5 ( http://kerneltrap.org/node/view/3112 )
The only solution so far would be patching the kernel, or build a kernel with the source from kernel.org.
