I have an old 486 PC with Windoze 95 ..
rather than throw it away I want to install Linux and give it to my daughter for education ...
Look at RULE (http://www.rule-project.org) since its goal is to install a minimal Red Hat system onto older hardware. Installs on some 386's have been documented, and also installs on 486's with as little as 8MB of RAM.
