for power conservation, i'd recommend the via eden motherboard/cpu line. 
they're low mhz (500mhz-1ghz), energy efficient and very small.

also, you may want to allow your bios to handle spinning down your discs. 
also, if you're getting new drives, get lower rpm ones.
