Would be nice if really true. But why is i.e. the portmap service running by default?
Because it is needed by fam, which is needed by nautilus, which does have RPC services which do need the portmapper. However, it has some major improvements from previous portmappers to reduce the security risks (see "man portmap"). However, unless there is a good reason for doing otherwise, you should always block outside access to this service with your firewall.
