LVM2 userland won't overwrite the LVM1 devices left over during the
upgrade.  LVM2 needs them to be soft links to device-mapper devices.
If you move the devices aside, the next boot will probably work.  Yes,
this unfortunately means you can't (easily) share the same root fs
between 2.4 and 2.6 kernels if you use LVM.
