As packages go pine is harder to build than helloworld and vastly easier than apache, emacs, perl, the kernel, or the X window system. >From time to time, in this brave new world of open source there is value in working from source. The pine package is as good a non trivial package as there is. I do agree, RPM packages are good when nicely done.
