The Fedora Disk 1 has a very good memory tester on the CD. Just boot the CD, at the 'boot:' type 'memtest86' without the quotes and press ENTER.
I'm not sure about a HD tester. Which manufacturer do you have for your hard drive? WD, Maxtor, Seagate? They all have specific utilities to test their drives.....
