Pardon. But I just asked for (and got) a couple of off list signed replies
sent to me... and unlike the ones processed by the list, they were handled
properly. I think that indicates that SOME mangling is occurring. Possibly
some mail clients are more susceptible to it than others? 

I'm using pine. And like the guy with Evolution, it is ONLY when REPLYING
to the signed (list resent) message that the problem occurs. They  do
display properly until the reply is started, where something prevents the
attached text from making it to the composer. It is instead being
included in the reply as attachments. This makes it difficult to
trim the quoted text, and/or to view it while composing a reply.

In my case I found a workaround that only requires some copy/paste and a
little manual quote reformatting. And a quick deleting of the attachments 
from the reply headers. Which serves me right for bothering to reply to
list messages with such digital signature files in them.<grin>

I'm curious though,you said mutt displays them properly. Does that include
durring a reply?
