Fuzzy,
you definitely need to get more ram for these machines, 64 is usable, but
they're going to be nearly unusable.  i recommend putting an additional
128mb module into these machines to bring them up to 192 (or more) or
they're going to be constantly going into the swap file and making the
machine nearly useless (and drastically shortening the lifespan of your
hard drives)  you should be able to pick them up for 10 to 15 pounds at a
second-hand computer store (estimated given the exchange rate from us to
uk, the dollar shall rise again! =])

chances are that these machines can only handle 128mb sticks, so avoid
anything larger unless you KNOW it'll work.
