I downloaded a sample clip of some hidef WM9 some months ago, and once I had a fast enough machine ;-) it played very nicely on mplayer.
Is it possible that the media you have in this MSFT format could possibly -- I hesitate to suggest such an idea about a reputable and respected company which only has its customers' interests at heart -- be DRM'd up the wazoo?

I have found that mplayer will play most files (or parts of files).
Any media that you cannot view may require an email to the site managers to complain. It may not get you anywhere but at least the site has been notified.
It is much more fun from a commercial email account. :)
