My experience (Compaq Presario 7xxx series, 2 GHz P4 1.25 GB RAM) is
that upgrading didn't work.  Perhaps it was the nvidia graphics adapter,
but it completely banged my system dead.

I'd recommend installing on a different partition or biting the bullet
and doing a clean install.  Very painful, yes.  But it's the only way
I've gotten FC2T2 to install.  

Also, FC2T2 locked up constantly during the graphic installer.  You
might want to use the text installer instead.
