I've been trying to think of that setting since last night. In earlier
releases, you'd echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/something and it would allow
routing...but isn't it in a better place, now?
do you mean /etc/sysctl.conf ?? here is mine:

net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter=1
kernel.core_uses_pid=1
