Here's what's happening here: I "yum" update the kernel and this started from version 2.6.4-1.300 which i am still stuck on because i cannot update to a later kernel created in rawhide or by arjanv. I am using Fedora Core 1 with some updated stuff from rawhide. So look at what the message says at the end - >>[root@gmaeding Linux]# yum -y update kernel Gathering header information file(s) from server(s) Server: Test Linux 2.6-test prerelease kernels for RHL9/rawhide Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - core Server: Evolution Devel Snaps Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - fedora-core-update-testing Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - freshrpms Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - updates Server: Fedora Linux 1 - i386 - updates-released Finding updated packages Downloading needed headers getting /var/cache/yum/2.6testkernels/headers/kernel-source-0-2.6.5-1.321.i386.hdr kernel-source-0-2.6.5-1.3 100% |=========================| 454 kB 00:01 getting /var/cache/yum/2.6testkernels/headers/kernel-0-2.6.5-1.321.i686.hdr kernel-0-2.6.5-1.321.i686 100% |=========================| 172 kB 00:00 getting /var/cache/yum/2.6testkernels/headers/kernel-smp-0-2.6.5-1.321.i586.hdr kernel-smp-0-2.6.5-1.321. 100% |=========================| 171 kB 00:00 getting /var/cache/yum/2.6testkernels/headers/kernel-doc-0-2.6.5-1.321.i386.hdr kernel-doc-0-2.6.5-1.321. 100% |=========================| 24 kB 00:00 getting /var/cache/yum/2.6testkernels/headers/kernel-smp-0-2.6.5-1.321.i686.hdr kernel-smp-0-2.6.5-1.321. 100% |=========================| 171 kB 00:00 Resolving dependencies Dependencies resolved I will do the following: [install: kernel 2.6.5-1.321.i686] Getting kernel-2.6.5-1.321.i686.rpm kernel-2.6.5-1.321.i686.r 100% |=========================| 14 MB 00:42 Running test transaction: Test transaction complete, Success! memory alloc (4 bytes) returned NULL.<< Now I googled the net for this and only came up with one good hit which was a guy who ran into this problem related to rpm on RH version 7.2 which isnt the case here. The rest are garbage. I checked bugzilla for redhat and couldnt find one matching this kind of thing. If you could find one, please do let me know. But no matter what kind of kernel im trying to update, i get that same "memory alloc (4 bytes) returned NULL" message and end up not having an updated kernel to test out.
