The actual dependency is on libxpcom.so, which doesn't have to be provided by mozilla; firefox also provides this library: $ rpm -q --whatprovides libxpcom.so mozilla-1.4.1-18 firefox-0.8-0.fdr.9.1 So there still is a choice. Now the version available from Openoffice.org comes with the libxpcom.so library included. In that case there is no dependency, but also no way to upgrade this library when a new version ofmozilla/firefox is released, without having to upgrade all op OOo. Maybe libxpcom.so could be made into a separate package (just as mozilla-nss and mozilla-nspr) to allow installations without mozilla or firefox but with OOo. But I'm not an expert on mozilla, OOo or rpm packaging, so probably the real situation is more complex than this. David Jansen
