The archive contains the answer, it was asked and answered some times
before.

Anyway, start your Acrobat reader this way:

LANG=C /usr/local/Acrobat5/bin/acroread

Maybe choose a different non-UTF-8 language like en_US. You may create
an alias for a more comfortable use.
