Yes, thanks.  It appears to a bug that has popped up in firefox-0.8-1: 
I uninstalled 0.8-1 and re-installed 0.8-0 (both DAG rpms) and the
window behavior is thankfully back the way it should be.

Caveat apt-get updater.
