You're welcome. I managed to do some ripping using mencoder
afterwards w/o the cdfs. :-p 

After mounting, something like

mencoder  vcd://1  -o  vcd1.avi   -ovc   lavc   -lavcopts \
vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=1800 -oac copy

helped! :-)
