well, yes and no. the old '2 x memory = swapsize' addage is sort of outdated. it may have applied when 128 was quite a bit more ram than most people had... now, if you have 256mb of swap, you'll be ok, regardless of what you have in physical ram. linux will continually put things in and out of swap, even if you're not running out of ram. it's ***OK***. it'll also keep things in memory for as long as possible, just to keep things faster. i'd only worry about increasing your swap space if you're filling it up past the 66% mark. if you're really concerned about it, then load up the system monitor (right click on the panel, add to panel, utility, system monitor). right click on it when it's loaded and enable swap monitoring. i'm on 256mb of ram right now and i RARELY go over 33%, which normally goes away when i close mozilla. -d ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leon Phelps" <leon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 13:57:29 -0500 (EST) To: "For users of Fedora Core releases" <fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: new memory = more swap? > I concur.
