Watch out for cable modems that only hook up thru the USB ports. I have
Time Warner Road Runner here and when they originally hooked me up they
used ethernet. But this was 3 years ago.
Now they hook everyones' cable modem up thru the USB port. This could
cause problems on Linux. Something to watch for, not saying that the
cable modem thru USB can't necessarily work. You might need to get some
drivers which could be problematic. Ethernet cards are typically well
supported under Linux.

Several joysticks are supported by the kernel. See in the dir
/lib/modules/2.x.xx/misc, if yours is listed. To check if it
works do a) insmod joystick.o b) insmod js-sidewinder.o (or
the module for your joystick). If it works then add following
in /etc/modules.conf 'alias ..-ascii-..-15 js-sidewinder'
