The customer has an emergency@ email address on this server, which works
fine with POP and IMAP. But now we wants the email to go to the POP/IMAP
account, and also the emails to be sent to Sprint PCS phones and a on-call
pager.
One clean option would be to create a procmail script for the emergency
"user" (edit or create .procmailrc in /home/emergency).
Hu! You call that a "clean option"? To call a separate LDA - remember:
LDA means local delivery agent! - while Sendmail has the feature
already build in, both in aliases and virtusertable (if virtual domain
hosting). Ok, it would work, but I do not call that clean or straight :)
It is absolutely clean and straight for single users. procmail is used
as the LDA on any message destined for a local mailbox anyway. Make it
do its job with a localized "~/.procmailrc" for the users that need that
feature. They could also do a similar thing with "~/.forward".
That's what those things are there for--to allow single users to tweak
things without affecting the general system.
(speaking as a guy who manages 50,000+ mail accounts on 10,000 domains)
