2.6.4 kernel & top

Hi

I recenly upgraded to kde 3.2.1 and kernel 2.6.4

I see top shows my cpu as 90% idle, using kernel 2.4 - 2174 top had the 
cpu as 99% ide most of the time.

Is this the new kernel using more resources ?
