It depends about what you're talking about.

If it's about that grey screen with a computer and a progress bar saying
what's being booted, you can remove the word "rhgb" from every line you
find it in /etc/grub.conf

If you are talking about the blue screen which asks for username and
password, you have to change your machine from runlevel 5 to runlevel 3
in /etc/inittab.
