I've got a 5100 with that screen. I found that if I had the monitor set
as a "Dell laptop panel" it wouldn't work at 1400x1050. It would all
corrupt. So I set it as a generic LCD 1400x1050 and it works fine.

I've got a Radeon 7500 and experienced no problem installing
graphically. I don't know much about linux but I imagine you needed to
have specified a display mode at the boot prompt of the CD.
