You've just seen https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=1238 in 
action. It blows up inside rpmlib, trying to take rpmdb lock and then if 
you install/remove *something* with rpm it typically just goes away - I'm 
quite mystified by it :(
