It may be a good idea to run ifconfig, and look at the details for eth0,
it sounds like your fairly knowledgeable, so I shan't tell you what to
look for (other then the IP).

Some one else has mentioned a problem kudzu, but I'm unaware of this.

Can you ping your windows box (even if you can see it).
