These are the package I installed

mysql-3.23.58-4.i386.rpm: ########################## Done.
mysql-bench-3.23.58-4.i386. ########################## Done.
mysql-devel-3.23.58-4.i386. ########################## Done.
mysql-server-3.23.58-4.i386 ########################## Done.
[root@sojourn lib]# mysqladmin -u root password 'mynewpassword#@@'

I get this ysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket:
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!
