Yep - tried it.  The entire machine freezes when starting X.
Curiously enough, using the generic VESA driver I get about 350 fps
running glxgears - approx 3.5 times faster than using the ATI-supplied
drivers.

Interestingly, I changed the color depth to 16-bit and the fps reduced
to 74.
