The source rpms contain source code that you could compile into binary files and then install. The other rpms, without the leading "S" contain already-compiled binary programs that are ready to install and run. As your expertise develops you might want to look over the source code (human-readable text files) yourself to see how the programs do what they do, and it would be optional for you to change things, basically to modify the programs according to your needs, and create new customized compiled binaries from your modified source code. At this stage of your acclimatization to Linux, that may be a bit much to absorb, unless you already have a strong background in programming. Good luck, Chuck
