I think he means to not bother with the source code just yet. The source
rpms contain source code that you could compile into binary files and then
install. The other rpms, without the leading "S" contain already-compiled
binary programs that are ready to install and run.

As your expertise develops you might want to look over the source code
(human-readable text files) yourself to see how the programs do what they
do, and it would be optional for you to change things, basically to modify
the programs according to your needs, and create new customized compiled
binaries from your modified source code. At this stage of your
acclimatization to Linux, that may be a bit much to absorb, unless you
already have a strong background in programming.
