It would be good if you could provide us with some details, i.e. what are you trying to achieve (e.g. "I try to install software XYZ and the README says I should run file.run to install" or so). It would also help if you could run this command (replace /path/to with the actual path of your file) from the command line and tell us the output: file /path/to/file.run If this is a one-time task you wouldn't want to associate the extension .run with a specific application anyway.
