I'm having an issue with pppd. It can connect and I
can get out to the internet, etc., but when pppd connects, in
/var/log/messages I see the message:
modprobe: Can't locate module
ppp-compress-21
I checked for an alias and the following
line exists in the file /etc/modprobe.conf.dist (which is included from
/etc/modprobe.conf):
alias ppp-compress-21 bsd_comp
The /etc/modules.conf file did not have this alias
and I'm not sure which file modprobe uses, so I added the alias to this file as
well. That didn't fix things either so I went poking around
and bsd_comp.o does not exist on my
machine. When I installed, I selected a server install. From there I only added
a few things, with the exception of removing X (it's a PPro200 w/ 64MB
RAM).
Before you tell me to check the archives, blah blah
blah, I tried and it's been down for a while now. The only google results I can
find just say to add the alias above, but from the number of hits, it seems like
this is a _really_ common problem. Is there some package I missed when I
installed? Does anybody know what package this file is in so I can install
it?
Thanks,
John Klingler
