When it comes to linux, everyone has to start somewhere. Myself, when I walked into a software shop in Vista, California and asked the person there if there was something better than Windows. That was 1997 and Slackware 3.4. Fedora may be a bit too much for a new user, Red Hat and SuSE would be better. Regarding KDE, it isn't exactly Open Source, is it ?
