Fedora Core 1 on an ASUS A7V600 motherboard

Hello all, i am a newly minted linux wannabee :) I need to install fedora
core 1 on the Asus a7v600 MB with via vt8237 and SATA drive. i've seen that
others have not been able to get it done due to core 1 cot supporting this.

i searched and found a patch (i think) at

http://at.rpmfind.net/opsys/linux/RPM/fedora/updates/1/i386/kernel-BOOT-2.4.22-1.2140.nptl.i386.html

it's supposed to be for the boot disk's bootable kernel. it's an RPM.

i do not have linux installed on any machine. what do i have to do to get
this patch to work so i can install linux to the sata disk?

your help would be very much appreciated
