Display Size Problems

I am running Fedora on a Presario 1600i laptop. The only available
display driver for this model is VESA and the only screen sizes
available to me are 640x480 and 800x600. When I run
redhat-config-xfree86 I get 'ddc probe returned bogus values'. I really
need 1024x768! Anyone have any ideas for how I could proceed with
troubleshooting or 'forcing' 1024x768?

Thanks,

Chris G.
