Thanks ever so much for the assist! I'm not sure where the last problem was, probably self-inflicted, but I started all over from a freshly formatted disk, incorporating your suggestions, and I am up and running. Ignoring the headaches with a kernel build the system now recognizes the SCSI controller, the disks and the RAID that was there. I will return the favor as best as I am able. But I am no guy for whom these register values make any sense. Your SCSI bus is correct terminated and all cables are well connected? You said that reloading the module at a later time all is well? Then report it at bugzilla. Meanwhile you could also try the older driver module called aic7xxx_old.
